Senator Johnny Isakson

U.S. Senate

A legend in his own time, Senator Isakson has been a leader in driving Veteran policies during a period of unprecedented expansion of benefits for US Veterans and the healthcare they receive. He put down his Chairman gavels at the end of 2019, but leaves behind a legacy that will benefit Americans and American Veterans well into the future. Among his many accomplishments, he was instrumental in passing the MISSION Act in 2018, which modernized healthcare delivery for the Department of Veterans Affairs. He has also been a leader on a wide range of other laws that have modernized every aspect of the VA. Sen. Isakson announced his retirement at the end of 2019. One of the oldest serving Military Veterans on Capitol Hill, the Senator has been on the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee since 2005 and has been the Committee Chairman since the 114th Congress. He will be remembered as a true Georgia son, who never forgot where he came from and what he came to Washington to accomplish.
