Coast Guard Contractor
Chuck Smiley is a civilian contractor for the US Coast Guard and 8-year Veteran of the United States Army. Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson and Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas presented the Secretary’s Award for Volunteer Service to him in October 2016 for his many efforts pertaining to the local D.C. community including; “Operation Belly-Full,” which provided meals and clothing to homeless persons, have served 600+ individuals over the years; and the “Bright Minds with Bright Futures” school supply drive, which garnered volunteer support from Coast Guard personnel and members of the community in providing essential school supplies to over 2,200 underprivileged youth. Chuck personally ensured that 500 backpacks filled with school supplies went to the families of US Service Members living in the D.C. metro region.
