United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada (UA)

The UA Veterans in Piping (VIP) Program equips separating Military Service Members with valuable technical skills in the pipe trade, an increasingly sought after skill-set. Through an 18-week accelerated courses – provided free of cost on Military bases across the country – VIP participants earn industry-recognized certifications and a direct entry into solid private-sector jobs with good pay and benefits. The UA VIP Program was created to jointly address Veteran unemployment and a growing shortage of skilled workers in the construction industry, creating a valuable pipeline for Veterans seeking meaningful careers. With praise from Congress, the U.S. Department of Labor, the Military, and media, the UA VIP Program is recognized as one of the best active-duty Military transition programs in the country.

The United Association’s chief officer is General President Mark McManus. In August 2016, Mark McManus was unanimously elected as General President at the UA’s 39th General Convention and on November 10, 2016, he assumed his new position leading the nation’s most progressive and influential trade union.
